The best night light apps for your baby on iPhone
If you want a red light for night feeds, pick Nala or Baby Light: Red Night Light. If you also want white noise in the same app, Nala has 27 sounds that keep playing with the phone locked. For a simple warm glow with a long timer, Loomy Night Light has by far the most ratings.
Full disclosure: I make Nala, so I'm not neutral. Each app below has things it does better than Nala, and I say so.
How I checked: on October 9, 2026, I read the public US App Store listing of each app: description, price, supported devices, minimum iOS version, release date and ratings. I haven't tested the other five apps hands-on, so their features are as their developers describe them, and "Not stated" means the listing doesn't say. Nala is the one app I know from the inside. Nothing on this page measures how babies sleep.

1. Nala: red light and white noise in one app
Nala turns the iPhone screen into a soft night light, with sounds to help a baby fall asleep. The red light uses Display P3 red, the deepest red an iPhone screen can show, and it goes down to 5% brightness. You can pinch the screen to make the light bigger or smaller, and pick from 104 shapes (moon, star, cloud, animals) for custom lights.
The 27 sounds include white, pink and brown noise, womb and heartbeat, household sounds like a fan, vacuum or hair dryer, rain, waves and 6 lullabies. They keep playing with the phone locked, and the sleep timer fades the sound out over a minute instead of cutting it off. Nala also warns you if the volume is loud for a sleeping baby.
Good: true red light free, light and sound in one app, sound that keeps playing locked, no ads, no account.
Less good: only white noise is free; the other 26 sounds, the breathing and fireplace animations and the extra lights need a Nala+ subscription. iPhone only.
Devices: iPhone (iOS 17 or later) · On the App Store since 2025 · Free version: red, warm white and warm glow lights, white noise, timer, volume warning · How I checked: hands-on, it is my own app · Last verified October 9, 2026
2. Baby Light: Red Night Light
A focused red night light from Dogo App. It has four light modes (deep red, amber, candle and warm white), swipe to dim, a 15 minute to 2 hour auto-off timer or all night, a feed timer and an Apple Watch app. Its listing explains the science of red light at night clearly, and it has no ads, no sign-up and no tracking.
Good: made exactly for night feeds, feed timer, Apple Watch.
Less good: no sounds, so you need a second app or a sound machine for white noise. It needs iOS 26.2 or later, so older iPhones can't install it.
Devices: iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch (iOS 26.2 or later) · On the App Store since 2026 · Free version: no limits mentioned in the listing · How I checked: App Store listing · Last verified October 9, 2026
3. Loomy Night Light
The veteran of the list, with by far the most ratings. Three modes: a soft night light, a rainbow mood light and a lava lamp you can customize. The timer goes up to 8 hours, or you can leave it on all night, and it fades out when time is up. It also includes white noise and ambient sounds that play until the timer runs out. In France it is listed as "Best Night Light".
Good: proven over years, long timer, nice mood and lava lamp modes for older kids.
Less good: built for everyone rather than for night feeds; the listing doesn't mention a dedicated red light, or whether sounds keep playing with the phone locked.
Devices: iPhone and iPad (iOS 16 or later) · On the App Store since 2018 · Free version: not stated in the listing · How I checked: App Store listing · Last verified October 9, 2026

4. Tap Night Light for Sleep
A bedside light with three "moods" such as Candle Amber, separate sliders for warmth and brightness, soundscapes like rain or water, a sleep timer and a button that turns on the iPhone's flashlight when you need more light for a moment. Controls fade away after a few seconds.
Good: fine control over warmth, built-in flashlight shortcut.
Less good: aimed at adults winding down more than at babies; one sound at a time, and few of them. The listing describes monthly and yearly subscriptions for "unlimited access to all content".
Devices: iPhone and iPad (iOS 18.5 or later) · On the App Store since 2025 · Free version: the listing sells a subscription for all content, without saying what stays free · How I checked: App Store listing · Last verified October 9, 2026

5. Night Owl – Baby Night Light
A very simple warm glow made for parents. Its main point: the screen stays on while the light is on, and a touch lock stops accidental taps while you're making a bottle or checking on the baby.
Good: tiny, simple, touch lock.
Less good: no sounds, no red light mentioned, no timer listed, and the last update was in August 2025.

6. LullaLite – Night Light
A paid, text-free night light for feeds and diaper changes: 6 colors (white, warm, pink, blue, green, purple), smooth brightness, a 5 to 120 minute timer and soothing sounds such as rain, waves and womb. It collects no data and works without internet.
Good: no data collection at all, no text on screen, sounds included.
Less good: $1.99 up front, plus a one-time Pro upgrade for all colors and sounds; no red light, and blue and green are the colors to avoid at night.
Devices: iPhone and iPad (iOS 15.6 or later) · On the App Store since 2025 · Free version: paid app ($1.99); some colors and sounds need the Pro upgrade · How I checked: App Store listing · Last verified October 9, 2026
Which one should you pick?
- Night feeds and diaper changes: a red light. Nala or Baby Light. Why red rather than white?
- Light and white noise from one phone: Nala, or Loomy for a lighter set of sounds.
- A toddler who wants to choose their light: Nala's shapes, or Loomy's lava lamp. More on fear of the dark
- No data collection at all: LullaLite or Baby Light.
Questions parents ask
Which night light app has a true red light?
Nala and Baby Light: Red Night Light both offer a deep red light made for night feeds. Nala uses the iPhone's Display P3 red, the deepest red the screen can show, and its red light is free. LullaLite has no red among its six colors.
Is a free night light app enough?
For light alone, yes. Nala's red, warm white and warm glow lights are free. Baby Light, Loomy and Night Owl are free to download and their listings mention no purchase. Tap Night Light is free to download with a subscription for full access, and LullaLite costs $1.99. You pay when you want extras such as more sounds, shapes or animations.
Which night light app also plays white noise?
Nala has 27 sounds, including white, pink and brown noise, womb sounds and 6 lullabies, and they keep playing with the phone locked. Loomy, Tap Night Light and LullaLite also include a few sounds. Baby Light and Night Owl are light only.
Is it safe to use a phone as a night light near a baby?
Keep the phone out of the crib and out of reach, on a shelf or dresser, and plug it in if it will stay on for hours. If you play sound, keep the volume low and the phone a couple of meters (about 7 feet) from the crib.
